Quick ways to restore and re-energize during and after the holidays
It's that time of year!
Holiday stress can affect our health as many of us tend to try and accomplish a long list of activities in a short amount of time. Social commitments, shopping, planning for family get-togethers, travelling, cooking... all of these things can take a toll on your physical and mental state. Try these quick tips to restore and re-energize this holiday season!
Get 7-8 hours of restorative sleep!
Reduce and limit your sugar, caffeine, and alcohol consumption.
Take time for yourself! Enjoy a relaxing massage, a good book, or a long bath.
Get outside for at least 15 minutes each day to get some sun, even on overcast winter days.
Make a to-do list, and cross things off as you complete each task so that your mind is free and clear.
Take some time to do deep breathing exercises or guided meditation. It helps to lower your blood pressure and calm your autonomic nervous system.
Engage with a musical activity: singing, dancing, drumming.
Do something kind for someone else – it will make you feel good. Take a moment to open a door or say thank you. Share your time and talent by volunteering at a hospital or nursing home. Studies have shown that doing good decreases stress and increases happiness.
